If there’s one thing we’re not short of in Peterborough, it’s fast food.
With popular American chains, local takeaways, burger vans and neighbourhood chippies all in good supply – and more on the way – you really don’t have to go far in our fair city to tuck in to a tasty, on-the-go meal these days.
Whether this is a good thing or not is open for discussion, and one can only speculate if our love of convenience grub has anything to do with Peterborough being ‘labelled the ‘unhealthiest place in Britain’ in a recent poll.
The one thing we can be certain of though is that, with greater choice comes the potential to enjoy greater quality.
And that’s one thing we are, according to Tripadvisor, blessed with here in Peterborough.
The world’s largest travel platform has updated its list of our city’s fast food joints for 2024 – and boy does it make for interesting reading.
You will just have to trust us when we say you will be shocked by who does NOT make the list, and possibly gobsmacked by who takes the coveted #1 spot on our list which – for dramatic effect – counts down from 10 to one.
Tuck in!

5. Five Guys
Still a relative newcomer to the game when compared with other, more well-known American chains; Five Guys is winning admirers for a number of reasons, although its hearty burgers seem to be the biggest draw. "Best burger in town," and "You won't find a better burger in Peterborough," are just a few of the comments left by satisfied Tripadvisor reviewers keen to high-five the Cathedral Square joint, which holds down the number five spot on our list. 6. Salt N Vinegar
The real risk facing fast food joints that sell a wide range of hot meals and bites is that they will suffer from over-stretch, i.e. offer many things yet do none of them truly well. Happily that is not the case at this much-loved Lincoln Road eatery, which knocks out kebabs, burgers, pies, fish and chips, and the rest with aplomb. Decent prices and short waiting times help to earn this fast food fave a mighty impressive 4.5/5 on Tripadvisor, putting it at #4 on the list. Photo: National World

7. Fletton Fish and Chips
An institution on the High Street for many a year now, Fletton Fish and Chips is the kind of neighbourhood chippy that should be made available on the NHS. Yassar ("Yaz") and his team are so friendly and accommodating that stopping by for a fish supper feels like popping round a mate's house to catch up for a natter. "The owner makes this place amazing," raved one reviewer. Photo: National World

8. The Frying Scotsman
Heading into the top three we meet the first entry on our list with a perfect Tripadvior score of 5/5. Sitting pretty outside Holland Bazaar on Padholme Road, this family-run burger van knocks out hot snacks and bites which frequently earn plaudits like "amazing" and "perfect" on Tripadvisor. Treat yourself to a 'Scottie breakfast' and the rest of the day will take care of itself. Photo: The Frying Scotsman
