The Peterborough Telegraph is running regular spotlights on cats that need new homes to support the work of animal charities in the Peterborough area.
The Peterborough and District Branch of the RSPCA do so much to rescue, nurture and subsequently rehome all kinds of pets in the area. They have continued to operate throughout lockdown and within a small radius are still permitted to rehome these animals.
Below are a selection of those that have been rescued and are in need of their forever home.
To find more details on each cat and to search for more rescue animals, visit www.rspca.org.uk/findapet/rehomeapet/process.
The RSPCA are funded entirely by public donations and receive no government money and therefore rely on the generosity of the public. Anyone wishing to support their work do so via www.rspca.org.uk/getinvolved/donate.
1. Barnham- Domestic Shorthair crossbreed (5 years)

More about FIV can be found here: https://www.rspca.org.uk/adviceandwe.../pets/cats/health/fiv Barnham is always happy to see people and eagerly greets anyone who comes in his pen. He is great company and would make a loving companion! As Barnham is long-haired, he will regular brushing to keep his coat in good condition. He could live with children over the age of 10 but can't live with other cats. Photo: Midlands
2. Tomato- Domestic Shorthair crossbreed (1 year)
In January, we accepted almost 40 cats into our care that were rescued by the inspectorate from one house. They were living in unhealthy, crowded conditions and their needs were not being met. With so many cats to name, we needed a theme; meet our Veganuary rescue cats. The majority of these cats are timid and scared due to a lack of socialisation and normal home experiences. Very sadly, they are struggling to cope and are overwhelmed by unfamiliar situations and people. Tomato is a year old male. He is looking for a very special home where he can gradually gain his confidence. He is a very shy cat and will need to be allowed to settle and feel safe in his own time and not be rushed. It is essential that his new home be quiet and calm and preferably adult-only. However, we will consider experienced cat homes with older teenage children. Tomato could potentially live with another cat. Photo: Midlands
3. Oscar- Domestic Shorthair crossbreed (7 years)
Handsome Oscar came into care through the inspectorate as an unclaimed stray with a few catfight injuries. He is around 7 years old. Oscar is a sweet fella who is looking for an indoor home as he is FIV positive. More about FIV can be found here: https://www.rspca.org.uk/adviceandwe.../pets/cats/health/fiv Oscar was a little wary when he first came into care but his personality has begun to shine through and he is proving to be quite a love bug. He loves dreamies and is very fond of cheek rubs and chin tickles. Due to living rough, Oscar's fur is dull and stained but we are sure in a new home he will soon be back to looking his best. He could live with older children teenage children but can't live with other cats. Photo: Midlands
4. Martin- Domestic Shorthair crossbreed (1 year)
This young chap is Martin and he is in RSPCA care after he was taken to a vet as a stray with a nasty injury to his tail. Now after receiving the necessary veterinary treatment he is ready to find his forever home. Martin is a super friendly cat and loves attention from humans so much so that he will try to climb up you for a fuss. He is a confident boy and loves to explore so we feel that he would settle into a new home with ease. We are looking for Martin to go as the only pet, this is due to the fact that he seems to prefer human interation over animals! We do however feel that he could possibly live with children providing they will give him time to settle in. Photo: Midlands
