The bank in Lincoln Road, in Millfield, has been earmarked for closure on January 14 next year as part of a nationwide cull of TSB outlets.

It is one of two TSB branches in the city.

The other in Long Causeway will remain open.

The TSB has also announced that its branch in Ramsey will close on March 23 next year.

They will be among 164 TSB branches to close over the course of next year as the Bank continues to implement its three-year strategy announced in November 2019.

A spokesman said: “As part of today’s announcement and other wider changes in its business, TSB is removing around 969 roles.

“It is anticipated the vast majority will be colleagues who come forward for voluntary redundancy.”

Debbie Crosbie, Chief Executive of TSB, said: “Closing any of our branches is never an easy decision, but our customers are banking differently – with a marked shift to digital banking.

“We are reshaping our business to transform the customer experience and set us up for the future.

“This means having the right balance between branches on the high street and our digital platforms, enabling us to offer the very best experience for our personal and business customers across the UK.

“We remain committed to our branch network and will retain one of the largest in the UK.”

But the move will be met by dismay by residents as it is the second bank closure announcement for Lincoln Road in the last few weeks.

Barclays Bank announced recently it planned to shut its Lincoln Road branch on December 11.
