The bank has warned that it is looking at shutting 164 branches next year with 969 jobs at risk.

The TSB has two branches in Peterborough - in Long Causeway and in Lincoln Road.

The proposed cuts have been blamed on a shift in customer behaviour as more account holders choose to do their banking online.

The planned closures will reduce the TSB high street network to 290 branches.

TSB chief executive Debbie Crosbie said: “Closing any of our branches is never an easy decision but our customers are banking differently.”

The news comes just a week after Barclays announced it is to close its branch in Lincoln Road, Millfield, Peterborough, on December 11.

That decision has prompted Peterborough MP Paul Bristow to launch a petition urging bosses to review the planned closure.
