Religious communities in Peterborough tell police minister of the challenges in the city
Religious communities in Peterborough have told of their challenges they face in Peterborough.
The Government’s Policing Minister Sarah Jones visited the Faizan e Medina Mosque, in Gladstone Street, and the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara in Newark Road, Peterborough.
During her visit, the minister spoke to community leaders and local councillors to understand their concerns to discuss religious hate crime and community tensions.
She also emphasised the government’s commitment to making sure vulnerable communities feel safe and supported.

Afterwards, she said: “I was deeply troubled by some of the hateful, intimidating incidents I heard about in Peterborough, but I was inspired by the community spirit and resolve of all those I met to never live smaller lives.
“This government will do all it can to make sure our religious communities feel safe and supported, and we continue to work in collaboration with police and community partners to combat religious hate crime.”
Afterwards, Peterborough MP Andrew Pakes said: “We have some great faith communities across Peterborough.
"I was really pleased to have the opportunity to bring Community Safety Minister, Sarah Jones, to meet community leaders from our mosques and Sikh community at the Sri Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara.
He added: “Faith is so important to our city.
"I wanted to ensure our faith leaders could meet directly with the Government to share their experiences.”
