The money was raised by Soccersixes staff and volunteers through an online e-soccer FIFA gaming tournament, with all profits going to the NHS.

Spokesman Sean Uppal said: “We wanted to do something to help during the pandemic and one of our referees mentioned doing a charity online gaming tournament.

“Our staff and referees helped and the E-Soccer tournament was a success, we were pleased to raise money for such a good cause.”

Soccersixes, who are affiliated with the Football Association, are now back up and running for the first time since lockdown and operate a six-a-side league on a Tuesday and Thursday night at Nene Park Academy’s 3G pitch.

The league runs weekly, is open to any standard and are willing to hear from teams who wish to enter. Games are 40 minutes long and officiated by qualified referees and there is no entry fee. Players have to be over 16 and a team captain can enter a squad of between six and eight players by clicking here.

Sean added: “Our teams who play in our leagues took part in the fundraiser and enjoyed it but are now happy that our outdoor 3G, sixa-side league is back on and they are enjoying playing again in the open air.

“Six-a-side leagues are good for mental health, fitness and also help with reducing obesity. The six-a-side league which is now operating is fun and enables a lot of people in the area weekly to get out and enjoy playing football with friends.”
