Family support officers at RAF wittering have been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

SSAFA’s RAF Personal Support and Social Work Service (PS&SWS) are delighted to be recognised as part of the RAF Wittering Welfare Team who have received an AOC 38 Groups Commendation as part of the Queen's Birthday Honours.

The charity's Personal Family Support Workers and Social Workers are contracted by the RAF to work alongside station welfare team’s and provide welfare support to service personnel and their families. They are based at RAF Stations all over the country, but we would like to recognise the team based at RAF Wittering in Peterborough for their achievement of receiving an AOC 38 Groups Commendation.

The Welfare Team can consist of different members dependant on the station but generally has OC PMS (Officer Commanding), WO PMS (Warrant Officer), Padre, SMO (Senior Medical Officer) and a Personal & Family Support Worker.

Paula Finch, Personal & Family Support worker at RAF Wittering said: “Every member of the team plays a vital part of making it work and RAF Wittering is a prime example of how this works exceptionally well.”

SSAFA Controller, Lieutenant General Sir Andrew Gregory KBE, CB said: “SSAFA is extremely proud of the commitment of so many individuals to assist, whenever required, those serving in this Nation’s Armed Forces, veterans and their families. The recognition in The Queen’s Birthday Honours is richly deserved; all in SSAFA congratulate them and thank them for their dedication and hard work.”
