The event, which takes place on Good Friday, sees congregations from churches from across the city gather at the Stanley Recreation Ground, before a procession winds its way through the city centre to Cathedral Square.
At the front of the procession, a number of people carry a large wooden cross, to remember the journey Jesus is said to have made in The Bible.
Once in Cathedral Square, a large, open air service normally takes place, with hundreds of people taking part.
The event is organised by Churches Together, but they said the event could not go ahead this year.
A spokeswoman said; “There will be no gathering and Walk of Witness from the Churches in Peterborough this year. This is in light of current COVID restrictions and the fact that the R number is higher in Peterborough.”
A number of church services are taking place across Peterborough over the weekend, all being held in a COVID secure way.
