The donation from Penguin Random House complemented the Christmas fundraising campaign at the end of last year with a further 500 books going to Peterborough children to support their wellbeing and reading skills.

Sally Atkinson, manager for Peterborough Reads, said: “Donations like this from Penguin Random House go a long way to help support disadvantaged children. Access to a book during lockdown, while many families have limited access to online learning, can help support a child’s reading skills whilst also giving them precious opportunities to visit new worlds.”

A representative from Peterborough City Hospital said: “Thank you again for your donation of wonderful books - we can’t wait to give them to the patients on our ward.”
