The Camper Factory, based at Axis Park, in Orton Southgate, specialises in converting and refurbishing old camper vans- and is adept at canal barge refits.

So far, the business, created by Louise Haidar, Robert Holland and Matthew Payton, and with 14 staff and an apprentice, has completed the conversion of 12 camper vans plus two canal barge refits since opening earlier this year.

Louise, who has 30 years’ experience in the sector, said: “Our team of skilled tradesmen will design and produce bespoke products for vans, 4x4s and boats. She added: “We can take delivery of a van and have it converted to a camper van, upholstered and fitted out to the customer’s specification in four days.”

Ben Cooper, who is responsible for fitouts and has more than 20 years’ experience working on VW vans, said: “There is no job too small, so if it’s simply laying a carpet in a van or fitting new LED lights, we’ll do that.

“We’re equally up for designing a complete conversion using our CAD and CNC machines.”

The team’s youngest member is Jordan Carr (19) from Kettering, who has just completed his apprenticeship. He said: “All of us have a passion for camper vans and learning to build them here is cool.”
