The company says the closure and relocation of the Werrington business will not result in any jobs being cut.

Kevin Bryant, sales controller at the Werrington site, said: “We are creating a supersite at Fengate.

"We have about 30 staff here and 600 cars and they will be moving on October 1 to our premises at Fengate.

"We believe that it will be more convenient for customers if we operate from one big site.”

A decision has not been made on the long term future of the Werrington site.

The Fengate showroom, which recently underwent a multi-million-pound refurbishment, will be renamed ‘Big Motoring World Peterborough’ from October 1.

The company says the move will mean a wider range of vehicles available for customers with the single site expecting to stock up to 600 cars. Currently, the Werrington store stocked premium brands of vehicles, and the Fengate store stocked a wide range of family vehicles.

Bosses have also confirmed that all staff positions will be transferred as part of the move and that they do not anticipate making redundancies.

Chief Executive Laurence Vaughan said: "We’re pleased to confirm that all existing colleagues located at the Werrington store will be retained within the group.

“We remain determined to grow our network to become the clear market leader in the car supermarket sector.

“Consolidating our two Peterborough stores into a single, larger format is part of our strategic review to create operational efficiencies, a better working environment for our colleagues and a wider range of accessible choice for our customers

Mr Vaughan added: “Our two Peterborough stores are just 10 minutes’ drive apart, meaning the disruption to our colleagues and customers is expected to be minimal.”
