Peterborough tech firm Rydal Group expands with second acquisition in a year
Company looks to enhance its services
A Peterborough tech company has expanded its operations with its second acquisition this year.
Telecoms and IT solutions provider Rydal Group, based in Church Walk, has announced the acquisition of Merula of Huntingdon, which is a well-established data centre and ISP services provider.
The company says the strategic acquisition of Merula, which was created more than 30 years ago, will strengthen Rydal Group’s service portfolio.
Steffan Dancy, chief executive of Rydal Group, said: “Acquiring Merula Limited is a significant step forward for Rydal Group.
“By bringing the data centre and ISP capabilities in-house, and with the launch of our new partner portal, we’re able to fully control our infrastructure, enhancing the quality, flexibility, and value of the services we offer both our partners and customers.
“This acquisition positions Rydal, and those we serve, at the forefront of technological advancement in an increasingly competitive industry.”
The staff at Merula will remain in place to ensure continuity of service.

Richard Palmer, managing director of Merula, will move into a new role as group technical lead, focusing on infrastructure development and innovation.
Rydal says the acquisition will allow it to provide a more comprehensive, controlled, and robust service, which will include access to dedicated rack space and the ability to leverage multiple broadband options such as traditional broadband, mobile, and satellite services through Merula’s own data centre.
The acquisition aligns with Rydal Group’s long-term strategy of growth and investment, ensuring that both partners and customers benefit from expanded services that are directly owned and operated by the group.
A key driver behind the acquisition was Rydal Group’s ambition to become the ‘partner of choice’ for connectivity and VoIP service offerings.
It is the second acquisition completed by Rydal this year. In June, the company announced the acquisition of Cambridge-based My Communications, which was a provider of advanced telecom solutions.
