Peterborough Rotary Club has raised a huge £1,500 for Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice.

With the plans of their annual golf day in October looking ‘unlikely’, which usually raises a significant amount for the hospice, members decided to fundraise in other ways. Quickly adapting to lockdown the club now meets over Zoom, where it holds its meetings every Tuesday and uses the platform to carry out its charity work.

The hospice in Longthorpe has struggled financially due to the coronavirus pandemic and appealed for donations.

Graham Walker from the Rotary Club said: “There are a number of people within or associated with Peterborough Rotary who have needed Sue Ryder for assistance. We saw the appeal for funds so members decided not only to make donations, but to use some money raised from a quiz night and Rotary swim held in February.”

As the club was unable to hold its Easter Bunny fun run at Ferry Meadows, it donated all Easter Eegs purchased to the food bank. Still, the club is fundraising through other ways now, including a ‘guess the member from their youth’ competition.
