Peterborough residents leave out notes of thanks to rubbish collectors

Wanting to acknowledge the hard work that the rubbish collectors were doing each week, Wittering resident Luke Polden (31) decided when leaving out the bins to also leave the workers some treats too.

The note read: “Dear Binmen, I watch you from my window every week, thank you for all your hard work. Without you there would be rubbish everywhere. Thanks again and stay safe. From Luke, aged 31.”

After posting his video to Facebook, neighbours from across the village also took part, despite not living in the same street. Leaving notes, also adding some humour, other residents wrote their ages too which has become a ‘running joke’.

Luke said: “I didn’t know the bin men before, but they’ve been really good sports and joined our local village Facebook page The Wittering Hub. It is to give people a laugh more than anything and brighten up their days.”

Their kind actions didn’t go unnoticed as one of the workers, Liam Stocks, said: “From the bottom of our hearts we would like to thank every single one of you for the crazy support over the past few weeks. You guys are amazing, from the chocolates to the kind words. Especially those who came out and clapped for us, that was something else.”
