Peterborough Royal Naval Association (RNA) were proud to remember the 76th anniversary of VE Day at All Saints Church on Saturday.

Due to the very bad weather, the service was held inside the church, and in compliance with current COVID rules, it was short and socially distanced, but it did not detract from its significance.

The service conducted by Charles Steward, and included in the small gathering was the guest of honour, the Mayor of Peterborough, Councillor Gul Nawaz, a small number of RNA Shipmates, the Branch Standard Bearer, the Branch Chairman and an RBL representative and shipmate, Langford Smith.

Unfortunately the association’s two Second World War veterans; Shipmates Ken Tinkler and George Hockney, were not able to attend, but a spokesman for the association said they ‘were with us in spirit.’
