The offer has been made by staff at The Peacock on London Road, close to the city centre, as a way of showing solidarity with the community.

On Sunday, the pub, which was taken over by the Slater family in November, was forced to close its doors as Peterborough was placed into Tier 4 of the government’s Covid-19 restrictions but staff have decided to make the offer out of their own pockets,

A statement on The Peacock’s Facebook page read: “So we have had to close our doors for now but we appreciate all the support we have had so far so want to give a little something back.

“Are you or someone you know or a family you know struggling for a meal on Christmas day? Please just message us and we will arrange a full Christmas meal and arrange to get it to you.

“Do not feel embarrassed or ashamed. This year has damaged so many families. So please do get in touch. Love Julie, Phil, Colleen, Darren and Corin xx.”

Colleen added: “We have had to close due to being in Tier 4 but while open we noticed a few will be spending Christmas alone.

“So we decided for those who won’t be having a Christmas day meal, due to lack of family or funds, we wanted to help if we could. We have had families, single parents and people isolating contact us.

“Out of our own pockets we have brought each of them everything they need to cook a Christmas meal from the joint of meat to the Yorkshire pud. We have arranged to drop these off on their doorsteps on Wednesday evening.”
