Burghley Park and Peterborough Ladies for CRUK’s chair, Ann Hanson, said: “We are a group of ladies whose sole aim is to raise as much money for cancer research.

"We are hoping that our move to the new venue can help to encourage other members to join us.”

The meetings will offer members a lunch, including a two-course meal and a raffle, with guest speakers each month.

Gill Burgess, Cancer Research UK fundraising spokesperson for Cambridgeshire, said: “The Burghley Park and Peterborough Ladies for Cancer Research UK group is an absolute inspiration and we can’t thank them enough for playing a part in helping us to beat cancer.

"Their lunches are a wonderful opportunity to get together with old friends, meet new friends and raise funds for a clause close to so many of our hearts.

“Cancer survival in the UK has doubled since the early 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of the progress. However, we have only been able to do this thanks to the dedication and generosity of volunteers and supporters like the Burghley Park and Peterborough Ladies group – without them we would not be able to fund outstanding scientists, doctors and nurses.

"One in two of us will get cancer in our lifetime. All of us can support research that can beat it.”
