Peterborough Household Recycling Centre unable to accept fridges or freezers

Peterborough City Council has said that the Household Recycling Centre is currently unable to accept fridges or freezers.

The centre in Fengate has said they can’t accept the items because of an issue affecting collection and processing by contractors.

A spokesperson for the authority said it was hoped that other methods of disposing of the items would mean fly-tipping would not increase.

The spokesperson said it was hoped the situation would be resolved very shortly. They added: “Residents can still dispose of unwanted fridge freezers through the council’s bulky waste collection service. In addition, many retailers that sell electrical appliances offer take-back and recycling services for unwanted items, regardless of whether a replacement appliance is being purchased.

“We are currently signposting residents to these alternative disposal routes while we work with our compliance scheme Recycling Lives to restore the service as soon as possible.”
