The Light Project Peterborough reached out to the Morrisons Foundation to help fund meals, toiletries and other essential supplies for homeless people, as well as cover the costs of extra staff to help meet the increased demand of the charity’s services in the community.

Steven Pettican, Light Project Peterborough CEO, said, “This generous support from the Morrisons Foundation will enable us to support rough-sleepers in Peterborough who are especially vulnerable at this time.

“We are currently providing meals and essential supplies to over 100 people in addition to providing ongoing support with issues such as mental health, substance misuse, employment and securing housing. We are so thankful for this funding which will support this vital work”

David Scott, Morrisons Foundation Trustee said, “We know that the coronavirus outbreak presents a serious risk to rough sleepers, who may find it difficult to shield effectively. I’m very pleased that the Morrisons Foundation has been able to help fund Light Project Peterborough’s work to support the most vulnerable people in our society.”

The Morrisons Foundation was set up by Morrisons supermarket in 2015 and awards grants for charity projects which help improve people’s lives. Since launching over £29 million has been donated to hundreds of charities across England, Scotland and Wales. Local charities are encouraged to visit www.morrisonsfoundation.com to find out how to apply for a grant.

Light Project Peterborough is currently asking local people for their input as they seek to build on recent successes supporting homeless people during the Coronavirus pandemic.
