Working for hours on their rainbow chalk wall, Tegan Friel (14) and twins Evie and Isla (8) have decorated their house wall with a bright eye-catching design with the help of their neighbour Lily Privett (10).

When posting the photos to Facebook the family were inundated with comments by their neighbours in the village of Eye to collect donations for a job well done. So the girls then decided to donate to “their local hero” Zoe Wareham and her team in the Intensive Care unit at Peterborough City Hospital.

Wanting to originally raise enough money for Zoe and her colleagues to have a meal or a night out, Katie said the donations had gone “crazy”. She said: “I wanted to give back to the staff directly. We’re going to save it all up and then they can spend it on whatever they like so they have something to look forward to after lockdown.”

As donations have piled in, beaming mum Katie is filled with pride for her girls. She said: “All the girls get so excited when they hear the letterbox go as it means we’ve raised more money for Zoe and her team.”

Not wanting those donating to go without a token of appreciation, the girls have also been making bracelets, with ‘N’, ‘H’ and ‘S’ beads for people to take away with them. Having made 100 bracelets, they hope more people will take one when they donate and have been told that those who have them are “wearing them with pride”.

Spending quality time together, the sisters have had “a lot of fun” doing the artwork. Tegan and Evie said: “It was a lot of fun, we’re waiting for some new chalk as we’ve run out of purple and white. We’re also waiting for more beads to come in for the bracelets.”

If you wish to donate, the family are still collecting donations through their letterbox at 25 Whitby Avenue.
