Peterborough Community Orchestra invite you to an afternoon 'At The Movies'
Let Peterborough Community Orchestra transport you from The 49th Parallel in 1941, through family favourites such as Beauty & The Beast and Billy Elliott, to The King’s Speech in 2010 next month.
The PCO Winter Concert is ‘At The Movies’, with 18 pieces of music written for, or featured on the Big Screen… promising an amazing, astounding, astonishing and absolutely fantastic afternoon of music on Sunday, December 7 (2pm) at Queen Katharine Academy, in Mountsteven Avenue.
The community orchestra was born in a pub in 2018 – a dozen adults who were seriously out of practice or who hadn’t played their instruments for decades.
From this modest beginning, it has evolved into a 50-plus strong intermediate level orchestra and registered charity.

"We’ve all ages from 15 to 91, playing 16 different instruments,” said a spokesperson. “In these uncertain, stressful times, we offer a friendly and supportive place where players of modest to advanced ability can get together and share the joy, and proven mental and physical health benefits of playing music together.
"We perform two public concerts a year, ably lead by our dynamic musical director and conductor, Charlie Westbrook. We also put on a limited number of smaller charitable performances. Our last two concerts at Crowland Abbey and also St Firmin’s Church, Thurlby, Bourne, were sold out.”
Tickets are £10, under-16s free from www.ticketsource.co.uk/pco-concert
For anyone keen to join, they rehearse on Wednesdays during school term time, 7.30pm to 9.30pm, at The Parish Church Of The Sacred Heart & St Oswald, Walton. There are vacancies for violas, cellos, double bass, double reeds, French horn and percussion. Find out more at www.peterboroughcommunityorchestra.org.uk or on Facebook.
The orchestra will be back at Crowland Abbey next July for an outdoor concert with a special finale!
