With an estimated 4,000 performers participating over ten days, the festival is one of the largest and most prestigious events of its kind in the UK.

Competing alongside some of the UK’s leading choirs in the spectacular setting of Huddersfield Town Hall, Peterborough Voices placed first in the Women’s Choirs class, winning the Celia Warner Memorial Trophy, and in the Choir Programme class, winning the Honley Male Voice Choir Trophy.

Peterborough Male Voice Choir placed first in the Men’s Choirs class and were awarded the Brighouse Trophy. They placed second in the Festive class and again in the Choir Programme class, with outstanding marks awarded for their ‘magical’ and ‘impressive’ performance by the judges.

Both choirs were invited to participate in the Last Night of the Festival Concert and the Choir Prizewinners’ Challenge, in which Peterborough Voices took the top spot amongst 12 competing choirs, winning the Jessie Jameson Centenary Baton, and Peterborough Male Voice Choir placed second. Peterborough Voices were also awarded the Huddersfield Centenary Trophy as the choir singing the ‘single best piece in the festival’.

“This is a terrific result, and thoroughly well-deserved,” says Mark Currier, the choirs’ Chair of Trustees. “Everyone has worked extremely hard in the run-up to the competition, showing real dedication and teamwork. Competing over such a long day demanded a sustained effort and everyone gave one hundred percent, even the 5am start didn’t throw them!”
