Residents will be in friendly competition with other care homes across the country for coveted trophies which will be awarded during a special closing ceremony, co-ordinated across all care homes, on Sunday 26 July.

Christine Elderkin, ages 95, said: “Oh I love sport. My late husband was a good sportsman - he used to play a lot of cricket and I used to go to every match. We used to play darts together and go to lots of football matches, mainly to watch Arsenal and Chelsea.

“It’s exciting because it’s so nice to see people win and see people enjoying themselves.

Jaqualine Nzara, Manager of Anchor’s Clayburn Court care home, said: “We are so excited to be holding the Summer of Sport at Clayburn Court. It’s been a challenging few months, but the impact the sport equipment has had on our residents has been amazing to see. There’s been a few games of football, and staff have been given some golf lessons from a couple of our gentlemen. We have some very competitive residents who are looking forward to participating and to showcasing their hidden skills.”
