Having set up support groups in surrounding areas such as Stamford, Bourne and Spalding, Christine is now furthering the support network to the city as she noticed a 'massive need.'

Fibromyalgia is a long term condition that causes pain all over the body. Symptoms can include extreme fatigue, increased sensitivity to pain, muscle stiffness and headaches.

Christine said: “I was at a meeting in Spalding and I’ve had people attend the meetings from much further away. For years now I have wanted to do one in Peterborough as there’s a big demand. We have a Facebook group set up, which is great but some people like to talk face-to-face.”

The new group will allow sufferers of the condition to socialise, meet new friends and talk about shared experiences. She said: “Suffering with a chronic illness can be quite isolating. The amazing thing about groups is that people have made new friends. People can lose a lot of their friends as a lot of people don’t understand the extent of the condition. We want to bring something positive. ”

The first meeting will be on 20 February from 11am-1pm at the Focus Centre, Chestnut Avenue in Dogsthorpe. From then, the meetings will always be held on the third Thursday of the month. Christine urges newcomers to bring with them someone for support if it makes attending the first meeting easier.
