Members of Float Fish Farm in Farcet decided to name the new lake after the war veteran who has raised more than £32 million for the NHS by walking laps of his garden.

The 100-year-old, who celebrated his birthday last Thursday, has been made an honorary colonel in recognition of his efforts.

“As soon as we showed them photos of what’s going we had some of the members suggesting some names for it. One of them was Captain Tom’s strip because he is so inspirational.”

A second strip lake is also being readied to open at the end of this year, with name suggestions so far including ‘Nightingale’ after the hospitals which have been built in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
