Hundreds of jobs could be brought to Peterborough with a multi-million pound refurbishment of a waterside office suite.

Plans have been unveiled for a thorough overhaul of the former headquarters at Westpoint, in Lynch Wood, of holiday giant Thomas Cook, which employed more than 1,000 people at the site before its collapse.

The 111,959, square feet premises is to be split in a bid to make it attractive to a range of businesses with an extensive refurbishment throughout the building, which includes large communal areas and on-site amenities.

It is thought the refurbishment could total about £4 million with the works due to be completed in October.

The award -winning building also offers anon-site restaurant and café facility, sports hall and gym with parking for 800 cars.

The development will be carried out by specialist office fitters Overbury with the premises brought to market by Atlantic Leaf Properties, which is being advised jointly by Savills of Peterborough and DTRE.

The new look building will cater for a wide range of size requirements, starting from 4,714 square feet at a quoting rent of between £17 to £19 per square feet.

Edward Gee, associate director in the business space team at Savills Peterborough, said: “WestPoint offers an excellent quality of space at a range of sizes of anything up to 111,959 square feet, along with excellent car parking and on-site amenity.

“We have seen limited availability across the city when it comes to prime office stock in recent years, so we are already seeing a significant level of interest in this building.

He added: “There has been a strong level of interest so with proposals out on about half of the empty space but it’s still early days.”
