LGBT Adoption and Fostering Week is this week. The campaign ‘Why not You’ encourages LGBT+ potential adopters and foster carers to consider exploring both paths by ruling themselves in rather than out of the process and will tackle some of the misconceptions around LGBT+ people who want to adopt or foster.

Peterborough City Council is holding an information session on Friday, March 27 at Serpentine Green Shopping Centre’s information desk from 9am to 5pm for people to come and hear more about the process and what is involved.

Cllr Lynne Ayres, council cabinet member for children’s services, said: “We know from many years of experience that LGBT+ people come with open minded enthusiasm about the possibilities of starting a family through adoption or fostering.

“All of our children have had a tough start in life but we reach out to everyone without prejudice to ask if you would be willing to offer a stable, warm and loving environment for our children and young people to grow and thrive.”

LGBT+ Adoption & Fostering week is organised by New Family Social, a charity that supports LGBT+ adopters and foster carers across the UK.
