Letter: Bin at Peterborough beauty spot was overflowing - take your litter home

Getting out and exercising has been a real pleasure in this Coronavirus lockdown, I have discovered some wonderful bike rides, especially round the new Hampton lakes.

Spring is the most beautiful time of year, gorgeous wild flowers, trees in full leaf, wildlife multiplying! However,it has opened my eyes to other things - human nature.

I have enclosed a photograph of the overflowing litter bin at Teardrop lake, Hampton. Why don’t people take their rubbish home if the bin is full?

I have seen youths jostling on the wooden platform, pushing each other into the water. A group of at least 8, and no social distancing. Also, beer cans and bottles strewn on the hill side.

Whilst cycling on the tarmac path,2 motorbikes roared past me. Nobody was wearing a helmet, and there were no registration plates. This is not allowed, and it is highly dangerous.

I have seen inflatable boats in the middle of the lake! I assume this is an old brick pit, therefore very deep and very cold, and who knows what lurks beneath the surface?

Anyway, end of rant. I feel very lucky to live in such a lovely area, and it would be nice if people respected it and took their litter home, and cared for their surroundings.
