Recruitment is about to start at Primethorpe Paving, in Werrington Bridge Road, after it enjoyed a stunning rise in sales during the coronavirus lockdown.

Now the family-run company says it is look to take on an additional three members of staff.

Managing director Gary Brace said: “There are likely three extra positions opening up.

“These will be for a sales and customer service role plus two warehouse roles.”

It is a remarkable achievement for the 21-year-old company, which had expected to be hit hard by the coronavirus lockdown and had furloughed its staff.

Instead, customers flocked to buy up its paving slabs, bricks and cobbles and more as they used the lockdown time to get on with home and garden improvements.

It left the company owners working 12 hour shifts, six days a week, to fulfil the surge in orders.

Mr Brace, whose company was winner of the Smaller Business of the Year title at the Peterborough Telegraph Business Awards in 2018, said: “We were only held up by stock levels in the end, so now we know the kind of fulfilment levels we can reach, we know there is plenty of room for us to expand into.

“The future is bright.”
