Hundreds attend Bengali Cultural Association of Peterborough celebrations

The festival lasted for three days

Thousands of people attended special celebrations to mark an important festival in Peterborough.

The Bengali communities of Peterborough and its surrounding areas got together under the auspices of The Bengali Cultural Association of Peterborough to celebrate Durgastav (otherwise known as Autumn Festival) at the Longthorpe Village Hall.

Peterborough Mayor cllr Nick Sandford was one of the attendees at the celebrations, with more than 400 people attending over three days,

This festival is immensely important to all Hindus because it reminds them of their duties and obligations they were born with to do good deeds to their fellow human beings despite differences in their faiths, cultures and ethnicities. This festival is religious, but more so a cultural and social event aimed at fostering community cohesion, tolerance and understanding.
