House on A47 near Peterborough to become children’s care home
Plans to convert a house into a children’s care home near Peterborough have been approved.
Farai Nyawo of Staycation Property Ltd submitted a full planning application in June to change the use of a detached house at 58 The Causeway, Thorney.
The application’s recent approval meant that the two-storey property located on the A47 could now be used as a children’s home, registered and regulated by Ofsted.
According to planning documents, the home would accommodate up to four children aged between seven and 17 years old and be staffed on a 24-hour basis.

It was noted in the plans that the property was “substantially larger” than a typical residential home, allowing the space needed to accommodate four children with their own individual bedrooms, communal living space, staff facilities and all ancillary spaces.
Some concerns were raised about the property’s close proximity to a main road.
However, the council’s case officer report noted that children would be transported door-to-door by staff in staff vehicles to attend school, health appointments, and leisure and community activities.
The report stated: “Under the home’s safeguarding and missing-from-home procedures, children are supervised at all times and are not permitted to leave the enclosed site unaccompanied onto the A47 which will be conditioned.”
Plans to convert the property were approved in August, meaning the development can go ahead within the next three years subject to a number of minor conditions.
