Grand 18th century Peterborough building set to become city centre apartments
Plans to turn a listed building in Peterborough city centre into residential apartments have been approved by the City Council.
The approval will see Real Property Assets Limited create 14 self-contained apartments by changing and altering 43 Priestgate, a former commercial property and Grade II listed building set within the Peterborough City Centre Conservation Area.
The plans set out in the approved application show there will be three one-bedroom apartments and a studio on the ground floor, and five one-bedroom and one two-bedroom apartments on the first floor.
The second floor will host three one-bedroom apartments and one two-bedroom apartment, while bin and cycle storage will be provided in the rear courtyard.

According to the approved application, the residential potential of the building will be realised via “Internal alterations including removal and insertion of stud partition walls, creation and removal of internal door openings, removal of existing lean-to kitchen structure.”
The plans also state that “Car parking provision is not required… as the site is located within the City Core, although there are a number of existing car parking spaces.”
The property is a mere five-minute walk from both Queensgate bus station and the railway station.
The developers’ describe its location as “situated within the most historically intact street in the city… adjacent to a Grade II Listed building to the west with further Listed buildings to the south, east and north.”
While the street has long been characterised by office use for professional services, there has been a strong shift towards residential conversion into flatted development over recent years.
The building itself comprises an historic core, a grand late 18th century town house, and a large 20th century extension to the rear.
