Eline Adams (62) passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday (February 25) following a short battle with serious illness.

Eline was born in Den Hague in The Netherlands and moved to Peterborough in 2004 to be with partner Dale.

She was an extremely popular figure in the village of Farcet, where the couple lived.

So much so that villagers and many from across the city rallied round after her diagnosis to give Eline the opportunity to realise her dream of getting married in her village church.

Given the current lockdown restrictions, Dale and Eline, who had been engaged for 11 years, had to apply for a special license to get married. They were granted this and able to tie the knot at St Mary’s Church, Farcet, in front of Dale’s three children and friend Andy, who walked Eline down the aisle on February 14.

Villagers and local businesses donated everything to make the day as special as possible, this ranged from Dale and Eline’s outfits for the day, a special Dutch themed wedding cake and even a stretch limousine to take them to and from the church. Cards wishing them the best for the day also flooded in, with over £400 of donations.

Karen Grant, a close friend and neighbour of Eline and Dale, stepped up to organise the whole day and has now launched the JustGiving page to help the family afford the funeral expenses.

She said: “Eline was such a happy positive person and will be greatly missed. We are so grateful to family and friends who have offered their help at this time but would also like to give others the opportunity to donate money towards the funeral costs if they so wish.

“These words remind me of Eline:

“I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun; of happy memories that I leave when life is done.”
