Transport crews have been training at the base using night vision goggles (NVG) this week.

Operating under the cover of night is essential to modern military operations. NVG are a real tactical advantage and enable crews to land and take-off safely during the hours of darkness.

The footage was released on Twitter by 99 Squadron.

The tweet read: “A pilot’s view of last night’s NVG training @RAF_Wittering! You see us overfly the A1 on approach to a NVG “box” marked on Rwy 25 with light invisible to the naked eye

“The crew performed a “Go Around At Threshold” on this particular approach”

The Station is one of several that supports night flying; a variety of airfields and environments gives crews a breadth of experience and ensures that no single area is unduly burdened.

Wing Commander Maxey concluded: “The Royal Air Force has an obligation to defend the United Kingdom and it’s essential therefore that we keep our Pilots and Air Traffic Controllers trained, up to date and ready for operations.”
