Enterprising success for former Sawtry student who turned 'side-hustle' into £250,000-a-year business

An enterprising former Sawtry woman has transformed her spare time activity into a flourishing business.

In just a decade, Georgia Gadsby (23) has seen her part-time ‘side-hustle’ become a successful PR agency reporting gross sales of more than £250,000 per year and six-figure gross profits annually.

After leaving Sawtry Village Academy with A-Levels in English, textiles, and media, Georgia graduated from Arts University Plymouth before joining The Range Head Office as a marketing and PR executive on £18,000 per year.

It was then she opted to devote her spare time in the evenings and at weekends to setting up and running Unearth PR offering affordable PR support to small businesses for just £250 per month.

She said: “What began as a way to make ends meet quickly snowballed.

"Clients started recommending me to other business owners, my social channels received a huge increase in engagement, and demand for my work grew far beyond what I’d expected.

"Eventually the business reached a point where I had no choice but to take the leap and go all in.”

And last year – and with no financial backing - the agency reported its gross sales for the calendar year had exceeded a quarter of a million pounds.

Now Georgia has expanded her team, bringing her partner onboard as a co-founder and operations director, and creating jobs which have gone to graduates and alumni at her university.

She said: “Sometimes entrepreneurial success is about creating your own opportunities.

"The job market is tough right now and it can be easy to feel stuck, which is exactly how I felt when I started my business.

"By starting something for myself in my free time, and committing to the hard work that comes with it, I have been able to build something I never would have imagined possible when I was doing my A-Levels at Sawtry Village Academy all those years ago.”

And now Georgia’s work has been recognised nationally.

Unearth PR was nominated in the Rising Star category at the National Start-Up Awards, while Georgia Gadsby March was named as an honoree in the Devon Chamber of Commerce 30 Under 30 awards and has even partnered with TikTok on an advertising campaign.

Georgia said: “I had zero business experience when I launched Unearth PR, aside from what I learned in my early marketing and PR roles.

"I didn't even take business as a subject at GCSE, A-Level, or Degree-level.

"My biggest piece of advice is to simply get started.

"People often tell me they have ideas for businesses or side hustles, but they never take that first step. If you don’t start, it will never happen. Take the first step and tackle each hurdle as it comes.

“You also have to fully commit.

"When I was building Unearth PR while working a nine-to-five job, I worked every evening and most weekends to get the business off the ground and to the point that I could quit that job. I believe that extraordinary results don’t come without extraordinary effort, so be prepared to have that mindset.

"Lastly, don’t worry about what other people think. If I had listened to everyone who doubted Unearth PR in the early days, I would not have the business I have today.”
