Beautiful hampers of chocolate Easter Eggs will be delivered to local businesses with an Easter bunny who needs a name.

To enter, punters need to guess the name of the Easter bunny in return for a £2 donation to the hospice charity. The winner who guesses the name correctly receives the beautifully wrapped Easter hamper and gets to take the Easter bunny home with them too.

The hospice is aiming high with the fundraiser, hoping it will raise at least £3,000 which could pay for a Sue Ryder nurse for a month. However, for the Easter Eggstravganza of a fundraiser to be successful, the hospice needs donations of chocolate eggs.

Maxine Harper Woods is a fundraiser at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice. She said: “We’re aiming to get 50 hampers out to local businesses, which means we need around 250 Easter eggs donated to us.

“This could bring in a total donation of £3,000 – enough to pay for a Sue Ryder nurse for one month, helping them be there when it matters giving their expert and compassionate palliative care.

“At our Christmas Fayre we asked the people of Peterborough to donate selection boxes to help raise funds for our care, and we were absolutely blown away by the fantastic response. We really hope that the big hearted people of Peterborough will get behind us again by making a donation of a chocolate Easter Egg to help us reach our target.”

Donations should be dropped off to the hospice reception at Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice, Thorpe Way, Longthorpe, by Monday, March 16.

Meanwhile, an appeal has been launched by the Ferry Project to help the homeless this Easter.

The Wisbech-based homelessness charity, which provides a range of valuable services to homeless people and the wider community, is appealing for eggs to help give their beneficiaries a sweet treat on Easter Sunday.

The eggs will be shared among homeless and vulnerable people using the charity’s Emergency Night Shelter, homeless support HUB, hostel and move-on accommodation.

Keith Smith, director of the Ferry Project, said: “For many people Easter is about families and spending time with loved ones over the holidays. But homeless people don’t have that to look forward to. Something as simple as an Easter egg can show them that people care and help them to feel part of the community.”

Easter eggs can be dropped off at the following locations:

. Ferry Project headquarters, Octavia View, Wisbech – 9am to 6pm, seven days a week

. Wisbech Town Council offices, North Brink, Wisbech – 10am to 3pm, Monday to Friday

. Queen Mary Centre, Queens Road, Wisbech – 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday

. Fenland District Council Wisbech Customer Services Centre, Boathouse Business Centre, Harbour Square – 9am to 4pm, Monday to Friday; 9am to noon on Saturdays.
