Police officers attended a street party in Belton Road, Park farm, Peterborough, on Saturday afternoon where residents were enjoying a party from their gardens and observing social distancing.

But a police spokesman said officers attended and had to advise a small number of people to leave the street.

A spokesman said: “We had an initial report of 30 to 40 people who were mainly residents attending a street party.

“Officers attended and people who were not local were advised to go. The other people were in their gardens so were self-isolated.

“Officers monitored the situation and at around 7pm everything was wrapped up.

“We are dissuading large gatherings which is why we attended. But residents were all isolated within their gardens.

“They are within their rights to be in their own gardens as long as social distancing is in place.

“Anyone not local was advised straight away to leave.”

He added that no enforcement action was needed.
