Coronavirus: Peterborough stores and pub donate food to community schemes

Shops across Peterborough have been donating excess stock to community schemes supporting vulnerable residents hit by the coronavirus crisis.

Sainsbury’s in Bretton and TK Maxx at Brotherhood Shopping Park have donated stock to those in need.

Sainsbury’s has donated items from its café to Paston Farm Community Foundation which runs a ‘community fridge’ that has been a staple in the community.

Louise Roe, community manager said she was incredibly grateful for the donations: “It’s so nice to know there are people who actually care,” she said.

“We are just so grateful for donations during this difficult time.”

After clearing hundreds of items from the store’s food aisles, TK Maxx manager Simon Stanford donated all of its surplus items to the Yaxley Food Bank.

Also offering their help, management at the The Crown Inn, Elton, have given their fresh food to the Village Shop following government advice to close.

The food will be offered to the community’s most vulnerable on a first come, first served basis.
