Pupils from Thomas Deacon Academy Juniors spent their last days at school creating word searches and writing kind messages to send to the residents. After 150 cards were written they were delivered to five homes across the city as pupils did not want anyone to miss out.

After receiving letters from Dogsthorpe Infant School, residents at Hampton Grove Care Home were moved to read what they had been sent.

Covered in rainbows, butterflies and sunshines the children wanted to bring colour to their days.

Laura Judd, activities coordinator, said: “It really cheered us all up and even bought a lump to some of our throats! We’ve sent out some thank you cards and hope to be able to meet the children all very soon.”

Easter eggs were also donated last week by the Friends of Hampton PTA Primary Phase to Clayburn Court care home. Hand-delivered by the children, before isolation advice was published, the residents were ‘delighted’ at the gifts.

Mark Salt said: “We thought it would be to give them as older members of the community are those hit hardest by what’s going on at the moment. It’s only a small gesture but hopefully the sight of the treats and chocolates will cheer them up.”
