Netherton Fisheries closed to the public on Monday - but this week they have been cooking for NHS staff and police.

Marcus Smith, from the fish and chip shop, said: “On Monday with a really heavy heart we made the decision to temporarily close our family run fish & chip shop Netherton Fisheries, we decided to close to keep our customers, our staff and our community safe.

“We really wanted to do something positive and give something back to all of the amazing key workers working tirelessly to look after people during the COVID-19 outbreak. On Wednesday we were able to feed the staff at the Boroughbury Medical Centre and some of the staff at Peterborough City Hospital and today the key workers at the Cambridgeshire Police force.

“It was fantastic to do something positive after a tough week for all.

“We look forward to when we can reopen our doors and continue to serve our loyal customers. Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates.”

A Cambridgeshire police spokesman said: “A huge thank you to Marcus at (Peterborough fish and chip shop of the year) Netherton Fisheries, for generously making us loads of fish and chips meals to feast on for our lunch. You’ve made a lot of coppers very happy during these tough times. Absolutely delicious.”
