“We will be suspending all site-based activities on a phased basis between now and the end of March to enable our customers already committed to their move to legally complete and occupy their new homes. During this time we continue to comply with the Construction Leadership Council’s site operating procedures, which are based on the Government’s instructions.

“We remain open for business through our sales and customer services teams and we look forward to re-opening our sites as soon as we can. We would like to thank our customers, employees and supply chain for their ongoing support.”

Persimmon Homes, which is building more than 1,500 homes in Cardea, has also announced a national halt to its operations.

The Government has not banned building works from continuing during the current crisis, despite claims that builders are unable to carry out their jobs without being within two metres of their colleagues which goes against social distancing rules imposed on the country to stop the spread of the deadly virus.
