Coronavirus emergency fund: New tablets to help families stay in touch and informed

Awarding funds to the Papworth Trust from the Coronavirus Emergency Fund, set up by the Cambridgeshire Community Foundation, has meant tablets have been provided to 10 residents to help them take part in daily virtual activities.

The Papworth Trust supports disabled people, their families and carers. Normally, customers would be able to attend day services, promoting social inclusion through leisure, social and work activities.

Initially, the clients didn’t have the technology required to take part and were becoming increasingly isolated. Previously, the sessions weren’t virtual, though it has now meant the clients can join in and connect like they once would in person. Making a huge difference, the new technology has helped them to regain their confidence and help them cope with the changes the lockdown has brought on.

One client who was especially pleased with the new set up said: “I’ve loved being part of the sessions, having routine and seeing my friends.”

Ellie Silver, trusts and grants fundraiser, said: “We just want to say one big thank you to the supporters of the Cambridgeshire Coronavirus Community Fund – you have made a big difference.”
