Previously there had been one case in the county which was diagnosed earlier this week.

Moreover, the number of confirmed cases in neighbouring Lincolnshire has risen from one to three, and in Northamptonshire there are now eight people with the virus.

However, there are no cases in Peterborough. The Public Health England website has listed one positive result for the city, but it has previously been disclosed that a resident from the area contracted the virus elsewhere.

Although health authorities do not reveal the location of positive tests, earlier this week Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge - which is used by patients across Peterborough and Cambridgeshire - confirmed one of its patients had the virus.

Yesterday, the hospital announced restrictions for visiting patients.

Nationally, the number of deaths has risen to 21 and it is being reported that the elderly and vulnerable could soon be shielded away.

The Peterborough Telegraph has also received more photos from readers of supermarkets in the city being emptied of certain items due to panic buying. Sainsbury’s, Asda, Tesco and Lidl are among those to have seen their shelves left bare of items including toilet roll, hand wash and pasta.
