Colourful mural inspired by Peterborough pupils brightens Ortons street

A new mural inspired by youngsters in Peterborough has brought a splash of colour to the Ortons.

The artwork has been created on the side of the Ink Imaginarium tattoo studio at the Herlington Centre in Orton Malborne.

It was designed by tattoo artist Hayley Evans, who owns the business, who has spent many hours bringing the vision to life.

The mural has been inspired by year five pupils from Leighton school where Hayley has undertaken a project with the help of Cllr Heather Skibsted, councillor in the ward and local poet Silje Stromsten-Roberts, to brighten the area

Cllr Skibested said: “After asking the children to draw flowers that were important to their culture or family, Hayley, Silje and Heather visited the school and worked with the children to write about the topic of “community” and write a haiku on this subject.

"The group also worked together to create some mocks ups of what the mural might look like.

"The children’s pictures and words have now been used to create a beautiful new design. Hayley has spent many hours painting these images on the wall, and on June 15 the pupils also visited and were involved in some of the finishing touches on the mural.

"The children from Year 5 all signed their names on the mural. There was a mural on this wall previously also inspired by a community project, and this is now a refresh with a new bright, colourful design which we are sure local residents will appreciate.”
