The meet was scheduled to take place from 7pm tomorrow (Saturday at Fair Meadow Car Park on Oundle Road in Woodston, Peterborough, in memory of Cain Martin (19) who lost his life in a collision last month.

A number of tributes to Cain were to take place at the meet, including releasing balloons, and Cain’s father Ernie Hebblethwaite had issued a plea for all those in attendance to drive safely.

Now, however, the event had had to be cancelled after organisers say that they were contacted by the Police and told it was not allowed to take place and that they would be fined if it was to do so.

Earlier, a Cambridgeshire Police spokesperson had said: “We are aware of a proposed car meet in Peterborough on Saturday evening and officers are engaging with the organisers and partner agencies in regards to the matter.

“Local officers will be in attendance to help ensure that any such event causes minimum disruption to the community and social distancing is adhered to.”

This morning (November 4) organisers of the planned meet contacted the Peterborough Telegraph to confirm that police have now told them the event should not go ahead.

A GoFundMe page has been set up in memory of Cain and to raise money for funeral costs. It has already raised more than £4000 of donations.
