Appeal to find Good Samaritans who saved Peterborough grandmother’s life after medical episode in Oundle Road

Betty Brown (71) suffered a medical episode in Woodston on Monday morning while taking her granddaughter Fynlay Cross (11) to Nene Valley Primary School.

She was treated at the scene by paramedics and taken to Peterborough City Hospital where she is currently in a critical condition, although responding to her family.

Betty’s daughter, and Fynlay’s mother, Kirsty Brown is now trying to find two of the five people who helped keep Betty alive and looked after a startled Fynlay.

She said: “A woman called Amelia Croft saw what happened and kept mum and my daughter calm.

“Mum then stopped breathing and a lady who we know, Angela Vincent-Kelly, came up and started giving CPR. This kept her alive and kept her organs going before the paramedics arrived.

“My daughter also gave the paramedics details even though she was devastated.”

Kirsty was taking her other daughter to a different school when she received a phone call telling her that her mum had suffered a fall, although the seriousness of her condition did not become apparent until she saw her being treated by paramedics.

Kirsty tried to rush to the scene but was held up by the traffic caused by her mum being treated at the road side, not that she realised the reason for the delays.

During this time she had a phone call from a stranger who said he would look after Fynlay while Kirsty made her way over and even gave Betty his coat to keep her warm which the family only realised when they were given it at the hospital.

Betty remains in intensive care but has responded to the family after being taken off sedation, although she remains in a critical condition.

Kirsty is also indebted to a nurse who helped with the CPR, as well as Abi Elsey who came to the scene and offered to assist in any way.

She is now trying to locate the man with the coat and the nurse to thank them for their help.

She said: “I just want to get to the people who helped and say a massive ‘thank you’. I can’t thank them enough - they saved her life.

“I’m eternally grateful.”
