We might not have even passed Halloween yet, but if you’re a bit too old for trick or treating then you’ll probably be looking forward to Bonfire Night instead.
The annual November 5 event marks the anniversary of the failed Gunpowder Plot in 1605 when Guy Fawkes and fellow plotters attempted to blow up the Palace of Westminster using 36 barrels of gunpowder.
They hoped to spark a Catholic uprising by destroying parliament and killing King James I.

In the centuries since, November 5 has been used as a day to celebrate Fawkes’ failed plot through firework displays and bonfires.
Once again, Peterborough and its surrounding towns and villages are set to host some cracking Bonfire Night displays this year.

5. Bonfire Night at The White Hart, Ufford - Main Street, Ufford, PE9 3BH
Returning for another year on Thursday, November 5, Bonfire Night at The White Hart in Ufford will feature a spectacular professional fireworks display from Electrify Pyrotechnics, plus a fire dancer, sparklers for sale, food stalls and outdoor bar. 6. Castor Fireworks 2026 - Castor & Ailsworth Cricket Club, PE5 7AP
Castor & Ailsworth Cricket Club is hosting its annual firework fiesta on Friday, November 6. The event will begin at 5.30pm, with the bonfire being lit at 7.15. The firework display will begin at 7.30pm. There will also be mobile food vendors, a licensed bar and children's rides. Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for children. 7. Deepings Fireworks Extravaganza - Spalding Road, Deeping St James, PE6 8NJ
Deepings' biggest and longest-running Guy Fawkes celebration, hosted by Deepings Rugby Union FC, returns on Friday, November 6. Hot food and a bar will be available on the night. 8. Family Fireworks at Orton Hall Hotel & Spa - Orton Longueville, Peterborough, PE2 7DN
Orton Hall's bonfire extravaganza on Thursday, November 5 will combine food and craft stalls with a brilliant firework display. The highlight of the night will be the dazzling firework display at 7pm, expertly presented in collaboration with Illuminatus Pyrotechnics, lighting up the skies above the historic hotel.
