We might not have even passed Halloween yet, but if you’re a bit too old for trick or treating then you’ll probably be looking forward to Bonfire Night instead.
The annual November 5 event marks the anniversary of the failed Gunpowder Plot in 1605 when Guy Fawkes and fellow plotters attempted to blow up the Palace of Westminster using 36 barrels of gunpowder.
They hoped to spark a Catholic uprising by destroying parliament and killing King James I.

In the centuries since, November 5 has been used as a day to celebrate Fawkes’ failed plot through firework displays and bonfires.
Once again, Peterborough and its surrounding towns and villages are set to host some cracking Bonfire Night displays this year.

2. Peterborough Fireworks 2026 - The Embankment PE1 1EF
Professional display company Komodo Events will be staging the large scale event on the Embankment on Saturday, November 7. The display will last around 18 minutes with fully choreographed fireworks working in time to a music soundtrack. It’s expected to attract between 5,000 and 8,000 people and is intended to become an annual event. This event will also feature an earlier child friendly display, choreographed to some of the kids’ favourite sing-along tunes with a little less noise. There will also be live stage entertainment, family fun fair rides, food outlets and licensed bars. Tickets are priced at £10 for adults and £5 for children. Photo: Peterborough Fireworks 2026
3. Yaxley Fireworks 2026 - Yaxley Football Club, Leading Drove, PE7 3NA
Yaxley Fireworks returns in 2026 but at a new location; Yaxley Football Club. As with in previous years, all funds raised go directly back to Yaxley Scouts & Guides. Gates open at 6pm on Saturday, November 7, with the display taking place at 7pm. Hot drinks and children's drinks will be sold by Yaxley Scouts & Guides. 4. Decoy Lakes Bonfire Extravaganza - 351 Drybread Road, Whittlesey, PE7 2AD
Decoy Lakes' annual Bonfire Extravaganza will return on Saturday, November 7. The event will Decoy Lakes Bonfire Extravaganza will feature children's fairground rides, food stalls, licensed bars and a huge firework display.
