As one of the most prominent streets in Peterborough city centre, many locals will have fond memories of walking through Long Causeway over the years.
Dating back to the 12th century, Long Causeway was designed by Martin de Bec, the city’s abbot between 1133 and 1155.
Over the past 800 years, the now-pedestrianised street has maintained its status as one of the main arteries through the city centre.
But as with all Peterborough streets, Long Causeway has changed considerably over the years.
For example, those of a certain age will be able to remember Long Causeway prior to its pedestrianisation in the second half of the 20th century.
We’ve had a dig through our archives and managed to find X retro photos which show how much Long Causeway has evolved over the past few decades.
