Like all cities, Peterborough is ever changing.
Iconic buildings and shops that existed as recently as 10 years ago - such as TK Maxx in the city centre - are now consigned to history.
The changing face of Peterborough may not appease all locals, but the city continues to evolve in more ways than one.
But what does the future of Peterborough look like, and what changes could happen over the next decade?
A number of major infrastructure projects are planned for the coming years, including the city’s new indoor swimming pool and Hilton Garden Inn at Fletton Quays.
We’ve taken a look at six important new developments set to change the face of Peterborough by 2036.
Discover them below:

5. Cygnet Bridge
Work on Peterborough's new Cygnet Bridge over the River Nene is set to start imminently. The £8.3 million footbridge was originally due for completion this summer, but this has now been pushed back. The bridge will link Fletton Quays to the Embankment. Photo: PCC

6. East of England Showground
Plans for 1,500 new homes on the former East of England Showground site were refused last October. Now residents of Peterborough are being invited to say what types of leisure activities they would like to see held on a central part of the East of England Showground. The public consultation is being carried out by East of England Showground Services (SGS), part of the Asset Earning Power Group (AEPG) which has a 20 years lease left on a 50 acre site at the Showground. The lease was granted by the venue owners, the East of England Agricultural Society, when it appointed AEPG as its land promoter, during a battle to secure approval for a 1,500 homes and a 50 acre leisure village development. 7. TK Maxx
The sale of Peterborough's former TK Maxx building was agreed by the City Council in March 2026. Subject to planning permission, the four-storey building will be replaced with a two-storey one, with shops and accommodation. Photo: Google
